Deir Ezzor (Qasioun) – Senior military officials in the Syrian opposition forces told Qasioun News Agency that “ISIS took the decision to withdraw from the left held areas eastern Deir Ezzor towards the deserted area between the Syrian – Iraqi borders”
The sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, added that the matter will be soon, where ISIS will move its forces, artillery and military equipment, without revealing how it will move.
Previously, The US-Led Coalition spokesman Army Col. Ryan Dillon, said that ISIS fighters remaining in the region continuing to fall as it lost 2 strongholds in Iraq and Syria.
During an interview with Military.com, Dillon said that the official estimate of ISIS' presence had just been revised downward by a significant number.
"Up until today, we had an estimate of less than 3,000," Dillon said Thursday. "But the latest estimate we got today was, there's about 1,000 across Iraq and Syria."
Dillon said the tempo of some offensive operations is slowing markedly as the ISIS population dwindles.
The Islamic state ISIS militant group are seizing around 15,000 Kilometers square from the Syrian lands, spreading in Deir Ezzor, Homs, Hama and Daraa provinces in addition to the Syrian capital city of Damascus.
The areas held by ISIS in Deir Ezzor and Hasakeh provinces reach 12,000 KM2, including the Euphrates river and Abu Kamal outskirts.
Moreover, ISIS seizes at least 2,000 KM2 in Homs desert, extending from Sukhna city’s outskirts till the managerial borders of Deir Ezzor province. Meanwhile it is spreading in Yarmouk basin area western Daraa southern Syria in an area of 250 km2, in addition to Al-Hajar Al-Aswad neighborhood southern Damascus and small pockets held recently in the eastern countryside of Hama.
ISIS leader fate remains unknown till now, although the Turkish Journal Yeni Safak announced that he was captured by the U.S. forces in Iraq and moved to the Syrian lands near Rumailan.
ISIS lost recently its media propaganda, as it previously depended on the versions published for their victories in Syria and Iraq, now it only published the news of their attacks and death-toll of the Syrian regime.
