Agencies (Qasioun) - Three buildings collapsed Monday as firefighters battled an early-morning fire in downtown Portsmouth.
The flames started in the State Street Saloon restaurant on State Street and quickly spread to other buildings. Investigators believe the fire started in the restaurant's kitchen.
“Police assisted us getting people, but we couldn’t account for everybody, so we are going to have to perform another search. Unfortunately, this fire went through the building pretty fast. We had to pull crews out,” Portsmouth Fire Chief Steve Achilles said.
Two restaurants and multiple apartments have been destroyed.
