Agencies (Qasioun) – English media sources said that Sam Allardyce has left his position as England manager after only one match in charge after he made a series of damaging comments to undercover reporters.
The 61-year-old Allardyce was only hired on July 22 and had a contract through 2018, but the English Football Association says his deal has been terminated ''with immediate effect'' by mutual consent.
The FA acted swiftly after British newspaper The Daily Telegraph published video of Allardyce appearing to offer advice on how to sidestep an outlawed player transfer practice, and also negotiating a 400,000-pound ($519,000) public-speaking contract, with reporters posing as businessmen.
The FA said Tuesday that Allardyce's conduct ''was inappropriate of the England manager'' and that ''he accepts he made a significant error of judgement and has apologised.''
In charge for 67 days, Allardyce is the shortest-serving England manager.
